To continue protecting people, we must also address how we can save our world for generations to come. We believe no matter how big or small a business is, it is in a position to make changes that can strengthen and broaden society as a whole. From ethical business practices to solid relations with fair distributors, striving for zero carbon footprint requirements and recycled materials procedures, we are constantly iterating our processes and methods.

When we assess our operations yearly, reducing our carbon footprint is front and centre of our sustainability goals. We aim to be carbon neutral in all ALT Technologies facilities by 2035, which we are well on our way to achieving. By 2040, we endeavour to reach net-zero carbon emissions across the supply chain. Suppliers are leading the way in what actions will be most effective and enable us to reach this goal. Therefore we will continue to support them in achieving these objectives.

Environmental Management At ALT Technologies

ALT conducts business in an environmentally friendly and responsible manner, taking a precautionary approach to environmental challenges by designing and developing products that assess their environmental impact and the potential to re-use and recycle them. ALT complies with all applicable environmental laws and regulations. We promptly develop and implement plans to correct practices that don’t conform to ALT’s Environment, Health, Welfare and Safety Policy.

For a holistic environmental commitment, our suppliers are encouraged to implement an Environmental Management System, preferably based on ISO 14001 and to be certified accordingly.

Taking the Right Steps to Transform for Good

Playing a significant part in the automotive industry puts a lot of pressure on ensuring we account for every little detail. Materials must be in the correct working order to keep automotive drivers safe. Therefore when the whole industry and OEMs choose recycled materials, we must adopt a serious approach to ensure we put the user’s safety first and foremost. Every OEM will develop their strategy, including goals for using recycled materials. ALT Technologies is involved in these processes and must create solutions that fulfil the most strict requirements.

Every year, we aim to get zero defects to ensure less waste of materials, energy and time. We thoroughly assess our inputs, outputs and processes to ensure we meet this standard.

Whenever we start a new project with customers, we fill out an SAQ form. This self-assessment questionnaire covers themes such as company management, working conditions and human rights, health and safety, business ethics, environment, supplier management and responsible sourcing of raw materials. In addition, we must upload evidence that the NQC Supplier Assurance team will review to ensure that the documents meet the acceptable evidence criteria.

Our Ambition to Advance Sustainable & Economic Development

Every year we address the various directives we must comply with, including:

  • ALT Directives on Hazardous and Prohibited Substances in supplied products to ALT. This Supply Specification ensures compliance with the EU Directives on hazardous and prohibited substances in parts, materials, inks, varnish, fluids, etc., supplied to ALT. We comply with REACH and RoHS; the EU REACH Regulation and EU RoHS Directive aim to reduce and restrict substances that can be deemed harmful to humans and the environment.
  • Conflict minerals: ALT ensures responsible procurement in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in the extraction and trade of ores of tantalum, tin, tungsten, and gold (“Conflict Minerals”) through abstaining from the procurement or usage of materials which are unlawful, or which are obtained through unethical or otherwise unacceptable means.
  • The Corporate Carbon Footprint GHG (Greenhouse Gas emissions Scope 1 to Scope 2) which we use to become term climate neutral. We also maintain an open relationship with the Environmental, Health, Welfare and Safety authorities and other public bodies.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

These goals are a blueprint adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, outlining how we can build a better world for all its inhabitants. At its heart are the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries in a global partnership. At ALT, our ambition and long-term plans are to achieve these for the environment, the planet and humankind.

What also makes for more sustainable living is the environment we live in and work in around us. We strive to maintain goal No. 3 on the UN’s sustainable development goals; good health and well-being, because sustainability starts with our teams of employees. Our Mexico facility achieved 1,085 days and counting of no workplace accidents, and this is something we applaud and always aim for across our global facilities.

●     Good health and wellbeing.

ALT ensures employees’ and visitors’ health, safety and welfare by providing awareness, support, training and the necessary tools to identify and mitigate potential health hazards and risks and maintain compliance with all applicable local regulatory requirements.

●     Gender equality

ALT acts with integrity and fairness and does not tolerate harassment or discrimination on any basis, following applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to age, race, religion or personal belief, colour, gender, gender identity, disability, national origin, marital status/parental status, pregnancy status, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic prohibited by law or otherwise irrelevant for the position. This principle extends to all decisions relating to hiring, promotion, transfer, recruitment, termination, benefits, rates of pay, and other forms of compensation or benefits provided.

●     Decent growth and economic growth

The standards of integrity, honesty and fairness are in place in all business activities. ALT has implemented a Code of Conduct, which is highly recommended for our suppliers. Regardless, activities are performed consistently with all applicable laws and regulations.

●     Industry, innovation and infrastructure

Being part of the automotive and home appliances industries means we must play a big part in ensuring safe and sustainable cars, infrastructure and secure home appliances. We foster sustainable innovation through continuous development with environmentally friendly materials and innovations that drive IoT, leading to more sustainable insights about manufacturing and how we can live better lives.

●     Reduced inequalities

We have bases across the globe, from Europe and the US to Mexico and China. We conduct our business to empower and promote the social, economic and political inclusion of all, irrespective of age, sex, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion or economic status we strive to achieve.

●     Responsible consumption and production

ALT complies with all applicable import and export control laws, including without limitation, sanctions, embargoes and other laws, regulations, government orders and policies controlling the transmission or shipment of goods and technology. Providing education, training, information, and the right tools ensures that employees can work safely and efficiently and prevent negative environmental impacts. The implementation of programs to prevent pollution and reduce waste. to make sure that waste products are collected, stored and transported in such a way that environmental pollution is avoided and unnecessary wastage (water, electricity, gas, paper, etc) avoided.

●     Climate action

ALT Technologies has established measures for meeting the requirements of the environment-friendly handling, discharge and registration of waste products. The responsible use of energy sources (water, gas, electricity, etc.) puts great emphasis on using renewable and environmentally friendly energy sources and on the energy efficiency of the related products, processes and services.

●     Peace, justice and strong institutions

Child labour is not tolerated, and the age of employment by locally legally established minimum ages in the country where work is performed shall be complied with. Any forms of physically abusive disciplinary practices are not tolerated, nor are any forms of forced, compulsory or involuntary labour, including human trafficking. ALT does not engage in nor tolerate any form of corruption, bribery, theft, embezzlement, extortion, or illegal payments to influence the decision-making process, whether or not in violation of applicable laws. ALT does not offer, grant, demand or accept bribes, illegal payments, payoffs, kickbacks, incentives, gifts, entertainment, favours or other value benefit in exchange for business opportunities.
